We provide many monitoring formats from simple HTTP to custom scans based on client systems. Our scans are designed to give you flexiblity in what can be, specialised inhouse communication solutions. Our scanning help section will point you to most solutions, but if you wish to test particular aspects of your systems functionality do not hesitate to contact our development team for a solution.
(We strongly recommend testing your parameters using the Instant Scan facility on your account to minimise fault conditions and a generating false alerts)

HTTP	To test World Wide Web sites
Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 80 for normal webpages, 433 for secure sites Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts. SSL: If selected scan will attempt to connect using secure sockets Text compare: A text string comparison check. Compares a substring contained within the retrieved page data.
TCP	General connection based port testing
Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: Any port number Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts.
UDP	General port testing
General packet transport protocol with no guarentee of delivery but fast !! Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: Any port number Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts.
FTP	File Transfer Protocol
Used for file transfer, test if connection available, login if username and password entered, named file transfer if text compare entered. Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 21 for normal servers, 990 for secure sites Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts. Username : For login purposes. Password : For login purposes. SSL: If selected scan will attempt to connect using secure sockets Text compare: A directory name check, to see if present on the server.
MYSQL	Database connectivity
Used to test backend databases, test if connection available, login if username and password entered, checks for named datebase if text compare is entered. (Remember to allow our server remote access IP 74.55.1.103) Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 3306 for normal servers. Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts. Required Username : For login purposes. Required Password : For login purposes. Text compare: A text string comparison check. Compares a database name contained within the retrieved data.
NNTP	News feed service
Used for reading and posting Usenet articles, test for connection. Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 119 for normal servers, 563 for secure servers. Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts. Required Username : For login purposes. Required Password : For login purposes. SSL: If selected scan will attempt to connect using secure sockets. Required Text compare: A text string comparison check. Compares a newsgroup name contained within the retrieved data.
TELNET	Telnet console connection
Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 23 for normal servers. Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts. Username : For login purposes. Password : For login purposes. Tests ok if returned data stream is greater than 10 chars, which normally occurs during welcome script return.
POP3	Mail Server connection
Used for email collection,test if connection available, will attempt login with username and password entered. Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 110 for normal servers, 995 for secure servers. Timeout : Select 10 seconds if response time errors to be minimised. Adjust for response time alerts. Required Username : For login purposes. Required Password : For login purposes. SSL: If selected scan will attempt to connect using secure sockets. Text compare: The mailbox name to open, normally (INBOX).
IMAP	Mail Server connection

SMTP	Mail server to server connection
Used for mail server to mail server communications,test if connection available Required URL: eg www.sample.com or IP address 74.55.1.103 Required Port: 25 for normal servers, 465 for secure servers.
